Is Richie Moriarty leaving Ghosts, and is Pete gone for good?

We had a feeling that the Ghosts season 5 finale was going to end in some sort of cliffhanger, but did you see that end coming for Pete?
Ultimately, it seems on the surface that Richie Moriarty’s character has disappeared after singing Whitesnake in the backseat of the car. We’ve known that there are some risks he has taken over time since we learned about his ghost power, but where will all of this lead? Is the comedy about to write off one of its most-popular characters?

Well, there are at least some reasons to be concerned. Speaking to Deadline after the finale, here is what executive producer Joe Port had to say:
We’ve teased Pete disappearing a couple times now, and it’s gonna be very interesting to figure out where he went and where he is and what he’s like now. It’s sort of an existential question that we’ve been wrestling with about what would happen if he disappeared. So we’re going to answer that question when we come back.
Meanwhile, fellow EP Joe Wiseman added the following:
As Joe mentioned, it’s something we’ve teased a couple of times, where we’ve had these close calls with Pete, and in this the stakes are real. One of our main characters just disappeared, and who knows, will he be back? Where has he been? It just seems to bring up a lot of enticing questions.
Given that there is no confirmation out there that Moriarty is leaving the show, there is at least a little bit of reason for hope. Yet, at the same time, shows do tend to make big swings around this point and even if Pete comes back, will he be the same as the version we remember?
