Is S. Epatha Merkerson leaving Chicago Med after season 11 finale?

Following this week’s Chicago Med season 11 finale, is there a chance that S. Epatha Merkerson could be leaving the show? Just how much should you worry?

Well, first and foremost, let’s just say that there is not too much to worry about when it comes to Sharon Goodwin’s future, even if her back is up against the wall as she fights for her future at the hospital. Showrunner Allen MacDonald confirms as much to TV Insider:

She’ll be back in the fall, and she has, yes, the battle of her life. Exactly. That’s exactly right. And we also liked the dynamic between Miranda and Goodwin, and we didn’t want that to end yet. We thought that there was more juice to squeeze there, basically. So that’s why we’re doing that.

Really, you can just consider the cliffhanger to be a classic one in the way that it leaves you worried for a long time about the future of a specific character. Ultimately, we just think that Goodwin is set now to have a really great arc moving into the fall, and we will see just how long things will last. Eventually, we do tend to think that it will shift over to a number of other things.

Ultimately, the most important thing to remember here is that Chicago Med is an ensemble show. It feels obvious that we’re going to see a ton of great stuff for Goodwin moving forward, but the same could be said for Charles, Ripley, and a number of others at the same exact time. Really, that balancing act is something that the producers always have to look at one way or another.
