Is The Rookie new tonight over on ABC? We would not blame anyone out there who wanted to see the series’ next chapter, especially with the way last week ended.

After all, if there was ever an instance of a TV show delivering both good and bad news, here it is. Let’s begin here with the fact that in the closing minutes of that episode, Tim and Lucy got engaged … only for them to be kidnapped straight after the fact. Clearly, the writers knew that all Chenford fans were eager for that moment after so many years. However, this is still a drama predicated on a lot of jaw-droppers and because of that, we can’t be that shocked to be where we are now.

Alas, this is where we now get to some of the bad news: There is no episode of The Rookie on the air tonight. What is the reason for that? It is rather simple: Last week was the finale! We are going to be waiting for a good while to see the series back, especially since there is no firm premiere date at present. Would not be shocked to be waiting until January 2027 for it, mostly because that has been the trend as of late. It gives ABC more flexibility to air the show with fewer breaks thrown into the middle of the season.

In the meantime, just know there is a lot to look forward to when it comes to season 9. Not only is there some cliffhanger resolution to be had, but you should also remember that The Rookie: North, the spin-off starring Jay Ellis, has also been greenlit. There may be a least some small crossover components there.
