‘The Originals’ spoilers: Joseph Morgan, Charles M. Davis, and a green screen

OriginalsWhen you look at some of the articles that are already circulating around some of these “behind the scenes” photos from The CW, there is one common thread in just about all of them: The backgrounds are generally fairly put together.

When it comes to this new shot focusing on “The Originals,” however, we are looking at what is an entirely different story. The network released the attached image here in honor of the Fourth of July on Twitter, and it features Joseph Morgan and Charles M. Davis standing in front of what we are sure will be some sort of menacing New Orleans backdrop. The issue here? For the time being, there is no backdrop at all. Thanks to the magic of television, we’re looking at yet another classic example of a green screen.

One of the issues that “The Originals” as a show is going to encounter, possibly more often than even the flagship show “The Vampire Diaries,” is that it will continue to film the majority of its new episodes in Atlanta, even though the setting is Louisiana. This is in part due to budget, but also so that executive producer Julie Plec can move between the two shows easily, and the cast members can do the same in the event that crossovers happen (and they probably will, but not early in the season so that “The Originals” has an opportunity to develop an identity of its own).

“The Originals” will premiere on The CW Tuesday, October 15 at 8:00 p.m., five days following the start of “The Vampire Diaries” season 5.
