The Last of Us season 3 premiere date: January 2026 update

Is there a chance that we are going to be hearing more about The Last of Us season 3 between now and the end of January?

The first thing that we should really say here is that when it comes to the future of the HBO series, there is good and bad news. We are more than happy to share that filming should take place for the next chapter of the series in the next few months. However, we aren’t there just yet and by virtue of that, it is hard to imagine having a lot more news to share throughout this month. We heard recently about one major recasting, and that is likely to be it for the time being.

So what is certain about the next season? For starters, the major focus is going to be another part of the PlayStation game, one that focuses heavily on Kaitlyn Dever and her character of Abby. She may be thought of right now as one of the most unlikable people on TV due to what she did to Joel, but there is more to share regarding her story, which is of course going to add to a lot of the emotional complications. Bella Ramsey should have at least some sort of role in this season, but we imagine it will not be as expansive as the first two.

For now, it feels like season 4 is going to be when almost everything comes together fully, and we would not be surprised in the event that HBO orders that before season 3 even premieres. Meanwhile, that could easily be the final one, as we have a hard time thinking right now that the show is looking to venture far past the games.
