The Pitt season 2 episode 2 spoilers: Whitaker’s challenge
As we look ahead to The Pitt season 2 episode 2 on HBO Max later this week, one of the most exciting variables is quite simple. Because ten months have passed since the end of season 1, almost every character is in a new place — and some of them are rather surprising.
By virtue of all of that, why not have a larger discussion at this point about Whitaker? This is a guy who during the last shift we saw, was struggling to find his place in the big city while also learning on the fly — and have bodily fluids dumped all over his scrubs. Now, he’s become somewhat of a teacher and seems to have taken some of Robby’s teachings in the best way possible. He now is helping other young doctors, a role that may take some training of its own.

Speaking to Esquire, here is at least some of what Gerran Howell (who plays Whitaker) had to say about where things are for the character, including someone he’s butting heads against in James Ogilvie:
I don’t think Whitaker likes the teaching aspect of it. I probably don’t think he ever thought he’d reached that level where he would be teaching other people. So that is definitely a new experience. I love Ogilvie’s dynamic that he brings in, because he is the epitome of a disruptor—and it was really cool to have an antagonist.
Somehow, Whitaker—with his brothers and stuff like that—is actually quite good at managing personalities when it matters. So I think he’s actually taken it in stride a bit, but a little bit reluctantly. It’s just one more thing to add to the shift.
Do we imagine that there is going to be some more evolution for him this season? You better believe it! It does feel like he’s one of the characters best suited to be the new Robby many years from now, but who knows if he will land in that spot?
