IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 premiere date: Early hopes
At the time of this writing, HBO has yet to officially renew IT: Welcome to Derry for a season 2. However, at the same time, isn’t that inevitable? It is hard to imagine a scenario where they decide to not bring the series back, mostly due to just how incredibly well it has performed over the past several weeks.
So for the sake of this article, we’re not going to spend much time sweating out a possible renewal. Instead, let’s shift the focus over to something a little different: When we could be heading back to this Maine community.

Of course, we are well-aware of the fact that horror of this scale cannot be rushed. There are a lot of visual effects required to bring these characters to life and beyond just that, it takes a great deal of time to also ensure that you are able to get the right people on board. If you missed the interviews leading into the season, season 2 is expected to back further into the past. By virtue of that, you have to cast a lot of new actors rather than reusing the same people.
Given that the Stephen King adaptation was not included in a recent HBO sizzle reel for 2026, our feeling is that Welcome to Derry is going to be back at some point in 2027. As for when … that’s where the mystery lies. We tend to think the fall of that year makes the most sense, especially since a ton of shows at the network these days seem to be operating under two-year cycles. Because the network has so many hits, it makes no sense to think that they are going to rush more along here.
