A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms renewed for season 2 at HBO

Even though we have yet to see any episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1, HBO clearly is happy with the end result. After all, it has now been renewed for a season 2!

Today, the folks at the network officially confirmed that both this series (based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas about Dunk and Egg) and House of the Dragon are coming back for more. The former series is meant seemingly to be somewhat smaller and scale and occasionally lighter in tone. It also feels like one that will not heavily feature dragons, given that it is set after the events of the other prequel but prior to Game of Thrones kicking off.

In a statement confirming the season 2 renewal today, here is what Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, had to say:

“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe. Together, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON and A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”

Based on the announcement we received today, the second season is primed to premiere at some point moving into 2027. We will be waiting for at least a while to see what’s next.
