Boston Blue spoilers: Xochitl Gomez joins in key role

Following her role in the Marvel universe and on Dancing with the Stars, Xochitl Gomez is now joining a different sort of universe with CBS’ Boston Blue.

According to a new report from Deadline, Gomez is going to be recurring on the crime drama this season as Penny, described as “a quick-witted, charming young woman with a mysterious past who crashes into Sean’s life.” It is clear already that Danny’s son is going to be extremely important to the show in a way that he was not on Blue Bloods, which seems to be one of the reasons why we saw a recasting in the first place.

With Gomez’s casting plus the ongoing presence of Marisa Ramirez as Baez, it does appear as though Boston Blue is doing one clear thing differently from the original show in giving us more recurring arcs. Blue Bloods was by far one of the most procedural shows out there, with each episode being its own isolated story. There were a stable of guest stars we would see here and there, but they would all be in their own story detached from the others. Is all of that about to change?

One thing that we are trying to remember in general here is that the new Donnie Wahlberg show is hardly still a finished product. It is going to take a little bit of time for a lot of the finer details to be worked out here and in general, we tend to think that come the spring, we will have a better sense of how it will work long-term — provided of course that it gets a chance to have another season.
