IT: Welcome to Derry spoilers: EP on time period

The premiere of IT: Welcome to Derry is coming to HBO in just a couple of weeks, and of course there is so much big stuff to be excited about!

So, where do we start at present? Well, the simplest answer we can offer is that the story this time around is heading back decades from where the movies were set. This is something that does open the door for a wide array of different possibilities.

Speaking (per The Hollywood Reporter) while at New York Comic-Con, here is some of what executive producer Andy Muschietti had to say about what they are looking to do here:

“It’s a previous cycle, which is for us very special because 1962 is closer to 1958 in a way … So what we couldn’t do in the movie in terms of era … we’re doing now. I feel that this first season is closer in spirit, and also in textures and feel, to what the book was, even though it’s not the same characters. Some of them, there’s ancestors and there’s bloodlines and a lot of things that you will discover might be a couple of significant connections.”

Ultimately, what is so exciting about this show is that you do have a chance to play around within a world that in some ways, we have seen a lot of already over the years in various adaptations. Can you make it feel new again, and perhaps even scary? These are all the different things that excite us about what could be presented here in the end. We just hope that there are some really unique surprises that nobody would have been able to necessarily predict here.
