For a long time, it felt like a Big Little Lies season 3 was something that felt more like a myth than something that was actually going to happen. However, let’s just say now that the tides are finally starting to change!

According to a new report right now from Deadline, Francesca Sloane of Mrs. & Mrs. Smith fame has been brought on board to write at least the first episode of season 3, which is poised to feature Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon once more. This comes along with an overall deal that Sloane just signed with HBO after spending time at Amazon MGM Studios. (As for what this means for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the series is currently delayed — we’ll have more to say on that soon.)

For over a year now, both Witherspoon and Kidman have discussed the possibility of doing more Big Little Lies, but its existence was never confirmed beyond a theoretical. We do think that it is something HBO will be eager to put on the air if the story is there, but we know that this is not a network that has ever ordered something solely for the sake of ordering it. If that was the case, then they would have run wild with the Game of Thrones spin-off focusing on Jon Snow.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the future of this series, but you also have to analyze the situation with a little bit of patience in mind. After all, we tend to think that the earliest we are going to be seeing the show back is some point in 2027 and in theory, it could be later than that depending on when production gets underway.
