‘MasterChef’ USA season 4 review: Wedding warfare and a temper tragedy

MasterChefAs the “MasterChef” field starts to whittle down, the show starts to do more and more with its elimination process. The two eliminations tonight are going to have everyone talking but we’re not sure that it is for all of the right reasons when you consider the way in which they were constructed.

Elimination #1 – Beth. When it was her and Krissi standing during the elimination challenge, didn’t you see this coming? Krissi is a character that is completely dominating everyone when it comes to screen time and personality this season, so you know that this was a moment that she would be safe. Also, wasn’t it nice to see reigning champ Christine Ha return? She’s such an inspirational figure in many ways (and extremely likable), so we have a feeling that the show would have no problem at all bringing her back a billion times if they could.

Elimination #2 – The wedding-themed team challenge was interesting: We had Natasha as team leader actually spare Krissi from elimination (hilarious, we know), and then we had Lynn completely falling apart and wiping sweat on everyone’s plates. This forced him into what we think was probably the most unbalanced pressure test ever against Jonny, mostly because it seemed obvious that the favorite Lynn would win. It’s a bummer, too: We really like Johnny, and think he’s got some great creativity. His macaroons in this test were a cool PB&J sort of novelty … but because of one moment of anger where he shoved them in the box out of frustration, he was gone. Boo. He was a personal favorite all season, and to see him go thanks to something not related to his cooking was a shame.

What did you think about this “MasterChef” episode, and did you really think that James should’ve been saved from the pressure test? If you want to check out some more news related to the show, you can do so here. Meanwhile, we’ve also got some great interviews coming up soon with some contestants, and also judge Graham Elliot. Stay tuned for more on that.
