‘Burn Notice’ season 7 spoilers: Flashbacks … and torment?

Burn NoticeIf you are familiar with “Burn Notice” already, than there is one thing you probably know about every season: Things tend to get way worse before they ever start to get better. Thanks to that, it really should not come as any surprise at all to you that the journey of Michael Westen is going to endure some major bumps in the road, and in this case, we’re talking about being physically tortured.

So what are the side effects for this? Speaking to TV Guide, Jeffrey Donovan explains that the incident is going to lead to a series of flashbacks in the episode, but these will be done in a way that almost brings to mind a Charles Dickens’ story “A Christmas Carol” with a grown man looking back at events of his past:

“The adult Michael is actually in those flashbacks with the child Michael, so he’s seeing himself as a little boy … He’s hallucinating and it’s crazy!”

As a viewer, the value in this is going to be apparent pretty early on. It is not particularly often on this show that we have had an opportunity to learn anything substantial about a character’s past, and this will be the second time for Michael already this season (an especially rare feat). As you remember from last week, we had an opportunity to touch on the first (rather romantic) meeting between him and Fiona, and how this story ended up playing a role in seeing how the two interacted with each other in the present.
