‘Necessary Roughness’ season 3, episode 2 preview: Wait, this isn’t sports at all…

Necessary RoughnessWhat’s your take on what we are seeing so far from “Necessary Roughness” season 3? We’re still trying to figure out just what we think about it, since we are looking at such a drastic change. Last week, an extreme amount of effort was taken in order to distance the show from its previous identity with the New York Hawks. In some ways, that’s great in that there wasn’t a lot of story left to tell there save for Mark Blucas … and he’s now off the show.

Still, there’s something to be said for the show not only moving Dr. Dani away from the Hawks, but away at times from sports in general. Take, for example, one of the primary focuses of Wednesday night’s episode: A young actress who is facing Lindsay Lohan comparisons as she tries to transition from child star to big-time movie actress.

Is the show touching on something that is currently in the headlines? Sure, but the danger that does come with this is that they are also touching on something that is covered on a variety of other shows already. The focus on athletics is what makes this series stand out, especially in a world where there is no “Friday Night Lights,” and there aren’t many other series out there that really shine a light on the mental aspect of sports. We thought that there will be plenty of this still around, but the new direction has us worried, and it’s going to be up to Dr. Dani (and John Stamos?) to save it.

What do you think about the show’s direction this season? If you do want to check out some more news related to Blucas’ exit from the show, our suggestion is to head on over to the link here.
