‘Girls’ season 3 spoilers: ‘Boardwalk Empire’ actor cast in mysterious role

GirlsIs Marnie going to be single on “Girls” season 3 or is there a new man coming into her life? For the time being, that is the mystery that everyone wants some sort of answer to.

Well, the answer to the big Marnie romance might come courtesy of Michael Zegen. According to Deadline, the actor has signed on to appear in a potentially-recurring gig on the comedy. While it has not been confirmed yet that he is the heir apparent to the role once occupied by Christopher Abbott in Charlie, a possible love interest for Allison Williams’ character does appear to be the most-likely scenario.

But is Zegen really going to last on “Girls”? It’s fair to be speculative about this, mostly because the actor is still set to appear on his other gig in “Boardwalk Empire” for its fourth season. The likely scenarios are as follows: He could be leaving the drama, doing double duty with alternating schedules, or just doing some sort of shorter stint at first similar to what Patrick Wilson had on the show last season. (We still think his episode with Lena Dunham was brilliant, regardless of what anyone else says.)

“Girls” season 3 has been in production for weeks now, but the entire filming process has been in a sort of chaos ever since the news first broke that Abbott was exiting due to some reported “creative differences” between himself and Dunham on the show. This was particularly sad news given that he and Marnie had finally worked out their differences, and he’s now set to leave her completely single and devastated.

What’s your take on this casting, at least per what you know? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and head on over to the link here if you want to read what Williams specifically had to say about Abbott’s departure from the show.
