ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 3 spoilers: Nick Wechsler talks showrunner change

There are some big stunners coming from the world of “Revenge,” and not just for some of the characters. You probably are very familiar already with the news that Jack Porter is now well aware of the fact that Emily Thorne is not who she says she is, and that there is someone else who is leaving the show permanently thanks to Declan’s death in Connor Paolo.

But what has also played out in the press for the past two weeks is talk surrounding the exit of one executive producer Mike Kelley, who created the concept and was involved in every step of the process. As expected, his departure is extremely sad for some of the cast, which is what star Nick Wechsler opens up about in a new interview with TV Guide:

“I’m bummed, because Mike plucked me from obscurity after 10 years of nothing. I owe him so much. But Sunil [Nayar] called me to talk about next season. It would be nice if character arcs are mapped out in advance so we can structure our performances properly.”

We know that the writers and story editors will be at work long before the cast, so it is possible that this hope of Nick’s will end up becoming a reality. In addition to the showrunner shift, he also opened up about how Paolo (who plays his onscreen brother) felt about his character saying goodbye to the show:

“Connor wasn’t happy. But he also took it like a champ. I think on some level he was preparing himself for it because he knew he wasn’t being used that much … The writers had a hard time finding a purpose for everyone, and he ended up not getting serviced.”

You really do have to appreciate Nick’s honesty here, especially in a time of flux for a series that was a sensation during season 1. Hopefully, this can be used as a foundation / building block to get things on the right path going into season 2.
