‘Best Ink’ season 2, episode 8 review: Were DJ Tambe, Teresa Sharpe done in by realism?
Last week in our “Best Ink” review, we questioned whether or not there was any way that DJ Tambe or Teresa Sharpe were going to be done in by a theme that leaves many a tattoo artist shaking in their boots: photo-realism. Every tattoo superhero has their kryptonite, and for some with more of a cartoonish style, this can be a nightmare.
One person who was doing a little bit of a happy dance over it? Jerod Ray. The guy went through a rough patch earlier this season, but this is his signature style and he dominated in it. This makes him much more of a contender than he was previously, which in our mind was just a guy destined to get maybe fourth place at best in a season with a couple of clear frontrunners.
Following this impressive victory is where Jerod may have dropped the ball, had he really cared about winning the money more than anything else. Did DJ or Teresa have the worst tattoos on the night? No, but the latter did not really even bother to following the objective of the challenge, and he may have had an opportunity to get rid of someone who has an excellent shot of winning in the end.
Apparently, Jerod decided to play the integrity card over deciding to be a mad scientist, and opted to place both Brittany Elliott and Alli Baker in the bottom. While Brittany has had her fair share of lows, she’s also had highs. Meanwhile, Alli has struggled with confidence, and seemed in over her head with this challenge from the moment her client wanted their ink in a bizarre position.
The surprise of the night was seeing Brittany leave. We don’t believe that she is necessarily a worse artist than Alli, but she did have a rough go of things and her tattoo was a bit of a colorful mess.
Yes, we didn’t mention the flash challenge this week … mostly because sketching a car crash designed in part to promote a movie isn’t our idea of fun. If we could draw a picture here, it would be a thumbs down for one of the weaker tasks of the season.
What did you think about this week’s episode, and do you think that Jerod really made the right decision for his own future in the game? If you want some more news in regards to “Best Ink,” be sure to hit up the link here.
