‘The Bachelorette’: Desiree Hartsock’s rap video is unintentionally hilarious

We really wish we could have been a fly on the wall in “The Bachelorette” offices when the following discussion happened: “So, what do you guys think about creating a fake rap video starring Desiree and her guys, making fun of the show, and then throwing in some semi-famous rapper as icing on the cake?” In theory, we would have thought that the standard reply to this would have been executives dishing out some vigorous laughter, and kicking this producer out of the room.

However, this video seriously got made. We don’t know how it happened, but we have to give some pretty major props for whoever had the guts to actually go through with this. It’s certainly awkward, mostly because 1) Desiree is no Nicki Minaj, 2) Desiree is not even as good as those people who try to rap on “Glee,” and 3) We don’t know anything about the guys, so watching them rap is not particularly engaging.

The real icing on the cake here, though, is the presence of one-time rap sensation Soulja Boy to try to give this video some credibility, with an emphasis on “some.” Only a man crazy enough to name a song after himself would be confident enough to appear in a music video like this, but to Soulja Boy’s credit, he seems to be genuinely invested in what he’s doing and not feeling like that random rapper in the Rebecca Black – “Friday” video.

Desiree’s season officially starts a week from today, and if for whatever reason Soulja Boy is some sort of secret contestant, we would go ahead and be willing to say that this is the best season ever.
