The Voice 24: Ms. Monet and Corii shine in Battle Rounds
At the end of tonight’s The Voice 24 episode, we had a chance to see Ms. Monet and Corii face off in the Battle Rounds. Was this a close showdown?
Well, let’s just say that our feelings on this are a little complicated first and foremost. Consider this, after all — Ms. Monet had WAY more airtime earlier this season, and we do tend to think that this matters from a storytelling point of view. However, at the same time you can cultivate an argument here that the show wants to surprise us here and there.
First and foremost, can we say that this was one of the most eighties-themed performances that we’ve had a chance to see in a long time. Both of the women really brought it and did whatever they could to really play to the crowd and to Reba — Corii absolutely held her own to the best of her abilities. The problem is that Ms. Monet just has that RANGE that makes her a really tough person to top in this sort of environment.
(Here’s a reminder that we really don’t love the battle environment all that much — we’d much prefer that we have a chance to see people face off in a different format.)
Now, what did the coaches have to say after the fact?
Well, we of course had some of the typical deliberations, which we find frustrating given the very small percentage of time anyone says anything even remotely constructive. It is mostly just praise upon praise upon praise.
In the end, though, Reba chose to advance Ms. Monet to the next round — not that this is a huge shock. Niall and Gwen to compete for a steal!
