‘Homeland’ season 3 spoilers: Who’s set to have a one-night stand?

Fair warning: The following story may end up making you groan, and we have nothing to offer at the moment but our condolences. For the season 3 premiere of “Homeland” airing on Showtime September 29, we are going to be meeting someone who actually serves as a one-night stand for somebody.

Who could it be? We don’t have the answer to that, but are there really too many choices? TV Guide reports that this character is a forty-something man, which rules out both Saul and Brody completely unless they go through some drastic identity crisis within their lives (and we really can’t imagine that.) With this in mind, our detective hats are of so little use, we may as well just toss them into the nearest dumpster.

Here are the only two candidates that are really out there:

1. Carrie – The motivation for hook up with someone is so simple, it almost feels annoying to spell it out: At this point, what she wouldn’t give to wipe Brody off of her mind. Sure, they had a little moment before she helped him flee the country, but the guy has more baggage than an airport. He’s also murdered the Vice-President, which from our vantage point works to pretty much cancel out any hope that you could ever have that he could be a symbol of all things good and holy.

2. Jess – Well, Diego Klattenhoff is not returning as a series regular, which means that Jess could have some spare time when it comes to dating unless Mike is still around in some capacity. Like with Carrie, she has a similar motivation to get over Brody, but it’s almost more problematic given that she actually has to get away from both of her children in order to fool around.

Maybe we’ll be the fools when this mystery is revealed to us during the season premiere this fall. For now, all we can continue to do is put our detective hats back on (even if they smell like garbage), and talk about some other “Homeland” hot topics, including a mysterious young woman gracing the show this year.
