‘The Newsroom’ season 2 spoilers: Jane Fonda describes return as Leona
So how much are we going to see Jane Fonda on the upcoming second season of “The Newsroom”? Based on what the actress is saying now in a new interview, we can expect there to at least be two appearances as Leona Lansing, the head of the corporation that runs Atlantic Cable News, and thus “News Night,” the show hosted by Will McAvoy.
During an interview with Coco Peru at the L.A. Gay Center (which you can see below), Fonda gives a pretty hysterical answer when it comes to being a recurring guest star on the Aaron Sorkin series. She also explains that she made an appearance early on during the show’s second season, and she got a call almost out of the blue to appear in a later episode to go along with it.
At the moment, it’s still very much to be seen what sort of role she is going to have in the show moving forward, as some very nasty phone-hacking allegations involving her son ended up derailing nearly an entire organization at the end of season 1. Jeff Daniels’ character also used this as an opportunity to keep himself on the air a while longer, which was a struggle nearly throughout the show’s first ten episodes courtesy of everything from ratings to the sort of content he was choosing to cover on the show.
