‘Bones’ season 9 spoilers: Series boss on implications of Booth / Brennan shocker

Even though the new season of “Bones” is not going to be premiering on Fox until the fall, it’s never too early to start to wondering just what the future holds for some of our favorite characters. If you are like us, then you are probably still reeling from most of what transpired Monday night during the finale. Early on in the episode, it appeared as though we were about to watch two people who genuinely love each other try to move forward to the next phase of their lives as a married couple. Brennan had finally gotten there, to the point where she understood the value of marriage and wanted to make it happen with Booth.

Then, Pelant had to come along and ruin the plan. Thanks to a well-placed threat and the means to carry it out, Booth had no choice but to turn down the proposal, saying that they were better off without a wedding. If he hadn’t said this, it could have meant the death of innocent people.

So how is this secret going to manifest itself early on in season 9? Based on what executive producer Stephen Nathan tells Entertainment Weekly, it’s not going to take long at all for the two to suffer thanks to the weight that has been put between them:

“Well, it will affect them quite deeply in the beginning of the season. There’s a secret between them. No relationship can thrive when two parties are withholding the truth from each other. You have Brennan withholding the truth that she’s okay with this and you have Booth withholding the reason for him backing out of the proposal. So we really have a huge hurdle for these characters to get over. Many relationships have been destroyed by far less. So there is danger to be had here from Pelant and also emotional danger between the two of them.”
