NBC’s ‘Revolution’ makes a season 2 change, hires ‘Cult’ creator
After a first season that has drawn big ratings but not necessarily universal critical acclaim, the folks behind the scenes at NBC’s “Revolution” are looking to at least shake up some things next season when it comes to bringing in “idea guys” to take the program to the next level.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rockne S. O’Bannon, otherwise known as the creator and executive-producer behind the short-lived CW series “Cult,” has signed on to the drama in order to be an executive producer along with potentially the #2 behind Eric Kripke. This means that he will have a huge say in production, scripts, and long-term story arcs, and hopefully help to give some of these people a little bit more character development. If there is one major criticism “Revolution” receives more so than any other, it is that many of the people feel one-note and not entirely human all of the time.
At the end of the day, we really like this hire. “Cult” was one of those shows that had a great deal of potential behind it, and there were some pretty smart and interesting moves made when it came to the premise and even the execution of it. However, it aired on a network in The CW that was not the right fit for it, and it never had the sort of promotion or launching pad it needed. Hopefully, O’Bannon will be able to showcase his talents better on “Revolution” to a mass audience, and use this platform to find some more work down the road.
What do you think about this hire, and are you excited to see what O’Bannon ends up bringing to the “Revolution” world moving forward?
