‘Mad Men’ season 6: Vincent Kartheiser takes on a classic debate (video)

If you haven’t had an opportunity to see a Vincent Kartheiser interview before, it’s always a pretty fun experience. Not only does the actor look a little bit different (and specifically much more like a hipster playing the bongos at a local cafe) when he is not filming the show, but he also has a particular sense of humor. Basically, it’s a reflection on how he is such a good actor in that he can make Pete Campbell on “Mad Men” come across so completely and absolutely smarmy almost all of the time.

Along with Gabriel Mann (who we wrote about earlier in the day here), Kartheiser made an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” this week, and was asked what many characters at SCDP may believe to be the eternal question by a fan phoning in: Who would he rather, Joan or Betty?

First of all, Kartheiser did the incredibly diplomatic thing, and made it clear straight out of the gate that he was talking from Pete’s standpoint. While there was a certain mystique around being with Betty as a way to stick it to Don, he said that his character would still probably prefer Joan, mostly because she is so sought-after at the office and it would make him into a glorified folk hero. Is that a little gross of a motivation? Sure, but that is the environment that many of these characters have learned to call home over the years.

Oh, and the video in here also features a good bit of Andy Cohen self-promotion, which makes that spoof featuring Taran Killam on “Saturday Night Live” all the funnier.
