AMC’s ‘The Killing’ season 3 to share traits with ‘Hannibal,’ ‘The Following’
We are just a month and a half away now from the launch of “The Killing” season 3 over on AMC, and we’re at least starting to get a little bit of a grasp over what the theme for the show is going to be. Based on what we’ve seen, we’re actually starting to think that the show may be better off carrying with it the title of “The Killings.”
According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly, Linden and Holder are going to be doing more this year beyond just looking for who killed Rosie Larsen. Instead, they will be looking for who has killed a number of people around the Seattle area. If you’ve been following TV trends lately, you’re almost sure to groan from this. In between “Bates Motel,” “The Following,” and “Hannibal,” there is quite an inundation of the serial killer themed shows that was already popular courtesy of “Dexter” and “Criminal Minds.”
However, a word of caution: “The Killing” is a show that is very different from those in that there is a sense of hard-nosed realism in every scene. The people will be more important than the usage of blood and gore, which is why we have sometimes found the garish style of promotion for the series to be a little bit at odds with what the story really is: A teal of how communities deal with tragedy, and how much it takes out of those who seeks justice to do their jobs.
The good news for all skeptics out there? Early word is that following the season 1 debacle, it looks like this will be a case that is solved at the end of the season. What do you think about the idea for the next season of “The Killing”? If you want to check out the first promo for the show, you can do so over at the link here.

Great to hear about S03, thanks!! This is a superbly written and acted show and deserves a place on tv. though not sure why everything should wrap up within a single season…i was perfectly happy with the last case playing out over two seasons.

i am looking forward to the killing season 3……in fact i enjoyed the first 2 seasons of the killing…loved the characters…love the mystery…..i dont understand why people were all in a tizzy but said that i cannot wait for season 3………..i think having the multiple killings will gaurantee no down time & move things along at a tense pace…………and i really like that the mystery will be solved in one season…..i dont mind that the mystery goes on a bit but i think your average viewer wants things tied up quickly & move on to the next story…..this gives the killing a new story each season which sounds exciting…..thank you AMC for saving this show !!!!!

I really appreciated your distinction about what makes The Killing different than shows that really on shock and gore to hold viewers. The Killing is a character study, not entirely unlike The X-Files, and how the crime(s) affects everyone involved is the real story of The Killing.
