AMC’s ‘The Killing’ season 3 to share traits with ‘Hannibal,’ ‘The Following’

The KillingWe are just a month and a half away now from the launch of “The Killing” season 3 over on AMC, and we’re at least starting to get a little bit of a grasp over what the theme for the show is going to be. Based on what we’ve seen, we’re actually starting to think that the show may be better off carrying with it the title of “The Killings.”

According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly, Linden and Holder are going to be doing more this year beyond just looking for who killed Rosie Larsen. Instead, they will be looking for who has killed a number of people around the Seattle area. If you’ve been following TV trends lately, you’re almost sure to groan from this. In between “Bates Motel,” “The Following,” and “Hannibal,” there is quite an inundation of the serial killer themed shows that was already popular courtesy of “Dexter” and “Criminal Minds.”

However, a word of caution: “The Killing” is a show that is very different from those in that there is a sense of hard-nosed realism in every scene. The people will be more important than the usage of blood and gore, which is why we have sometimes found the garish style of promotion for the series to be a little bit at odds with what the story really is: A teal of how communities deal with tragedy, and how much it takes out of those who seeks justice to do their jobs.

The good news for all skeptics out there? Early word is that following the season 1 debacle, it looks like this will be a case that is solved at the end of the season.  What do you think about the idea for the next season of “The Killing”?
