‘The X Factor’ UK notes: Union J premieres new single; Little Mix gets ‘Glee’-ful

Carry YouIf you remember back to a few years ago, there was an ambitious boy band from “The X Factor” UK with a big fanbase, but very little support outside of their home country. That group was One Direction, and they now have to be considered the biggest modern boy band on the planet.

So can Union J mirror their success? They are certainly going to try with their new single “Carry You.” Like with One Direction, these guys did not make it into the top four on their season, but they are the first act from their season to get new music out of the market, even before reigning champ James Arthur. This song sounds in many ways like what you would expect: power pop with a catchy hook in the chorus. We wish that there was a little bit more depth to the instrumentation, but this song has a chance to be a big hit in the UK, and potentially cross over to some other countries.

Now, let’s turn over to some news that should have fans of Little Mix rather excited. Their music is going to be featured on “Glee”! We teased earlier that Jessica Sanchez would be singing a song from the former “X Factor” winner as glee club leader Frida Romero, and now we have learned that the specific song will be “Wings.” Little Mix has been working to boost their profile in America over the past several weeks, and this is a pretty surefire way to help in those efforts.

What do you think about the Union J cover, and of “Wings” getting covered on “Glee”? If you want to read some more news on the hosting gig for “The X Factor” USA, you can do so over at the link here.
