‘The Lying Game,’ ‘Bunheads’ held in limbo; but for how long?
If you look at how ABC Family handles many of their shows (including “Pretty Little Liars” or “Switched at Birth”), you generally know whether or not a series is coming back on the air within a pretty short amount time of it wrapping. This has ultimately made the fate of “The Lying Game” and “Bunheads” a little more interesting. Both series have been off the air for over a month now, but there is no confirmation on the future for either party.
What’s the reason for that? According to Deadline, it’s all about ABC Family taking a wait-and-see approach. The network has some new series that are currently set to debut this summer, and executives want to see how they fare before making a decision on some of their other shows. However, the problem with this is that the options for many of the actors (in particular “The Lying Game”) expire within the coming weeks, and they have to find a way to extend them while at the same being unable to really give any reassurances at all that they will be waiting around for an actual job.
The ratings for both shows are what is keeping them on the bubble, but ABC Family, if it cancels the two, runs the risk of putting themselves into a bad situation as the cable network famous for not giving the shows the ending that fans want. The famous example comes via the cancellation of “Make It or Break It” last year just before the characters arrived to the Olympics, which is what many fans were waiting around to see for years.
What do you think: Is there one of these shows in particular that you want to see back on? If you want to read our full review of “The Lying Game” finale, be sure to check out the story over at the link here.

Make It Or Break It isn’t the only show that ABC axed against the fans’ wishes: OLTL and AMC were also cancelled and ABC has paid the price for that. We, the fans, fought and brought back our shows on another network. If ABC doesn’t bring back The Lying Game, they will regret it.

I am honestly not the biggest ABC Family watcher so I didn’t know they were known for “for not giving the shows the ending that fans want”. And now I’m really upset. I can handle the Lying Game being canceled, but I would really like a wrapped up conclusion that airs out all the dirty laundry!

I had always looked forward to every episode of Bunheads and it would be a shame to end it now. The dance routines and the jokes between mother and daughter-in-law were great.

I think Bunheads is the best shows on ABC Family, I also think they need to give it more then one season, to see if it can grow a fan base.

I’ll second that. I love Amy Sherman-Palladino’s stuff. (Of course, I also liked Jezebel James, so you might want to take my opinion with a grain of salt.) It bugged me at first how similar in style Bunheads was to Gilmore Girls, but after the first season, I think she’s successfully propagated the storytelling style—including the complex character arcs—without just doing “Gilmore Girls in California.” -TimK
