‘Suits’ season 3 spoilers: A few assorted updates

On Tuesday, July 16 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, “Suits” will be back for its third season. That’s quite a long time to wait, no? Well, we luckily do have at least a few assorted updates on the production of the USA series, and that is about as much in the way of scoop you are going to get from a show that is understandably being very secretive.

Let’s start with the production side of things. Star Patrick J. Adams (Mike) tweeted a little over a week ago that he was shooting some of his first scenes for the new season. The show films in Toronto, which you probably know does a pretty stellar job at replicating New York City. Mike is certainly going to start the new season on the down-and-out after Harvey’s dismissal of him at the end of season 2, and he also has to figure out where he stands with Rachel after their angry hookup session.

In turning things over to the writing side of things, creator / executive producer Aaron Korsh posted in a Q&A with fans early Friday morning (or late Thursday night, depending on where you are located) that he is currently rewriting the third episode of the season. The fourth and sixth episodes are written but are still in need of a rewrite, whereas there is an outline in place for the seventh. With this in mind, much of the show’s upcoming summer run is pretty deep into the pre-production process.

“Suits” remains one of USA’s most critically and commercially-successful series, and in some ways it represents the network’s new model of going in a more serious and at times serialized direction with some of its programming. It also from a personal standpoint has to be one of the most underrated things on TV. If you haven’t caught it yet, you have plenty of time to watch now before July.
