NBC’s ‘Revolution’ review: Wait … this caused the blackout?
Monday night’s episode of “Revolution” managed to finally answer a key question in “who caused the blackout,” but at the same time it did make viewers ask a completely different question: is this an answer that we are okay with?
We anticipate the reaction to the blackout being caused by tiny, electricity-sucking computers floating out in the air to be a strange one, but we don’t really have a problem with it. Nanotechnology is a pretty cool field, this is a science fiction / action show, and we really liked the book Prey. So at the end of the day, shouldn’t we just be glad that we have an answer rather than none at all? This is the debate between this show and some others: while some gave “Lost” flack for never explaining everything, others appreciate some things being left to the imagination. Sometimes, there are answers that would inevitably disappoint otherwise.
The real problem we had with Sunday night’s episode was actually not the big reveal, but rather some of the characters decisions being made. For one, we just didn’t really buy Rachel and Aaron going off to the tower without anyone else, mostly because it was not something that they particularly needed to do. Why separate the characters again? The fact that we don’t understand choices comes back to the fact that there’s some level of disconnect with most of the characters, and we can’t fully cheer for them because we don’t really feel a bond with them.
It’s both a good and bad thing, meanwhile, that we are so invested in Neville’s story. He’s a great character, but isn’t he the guy we’re supposed to root against? He’s a very bad man, for sure, but we can’t help but beg for Giancarlo Esposito to be on the screen more than he actually is.
Overall, what did you think about this episode of “Revolution,” and did you buy the whole blackout reveal? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below, and you can read some more news when it comes to the show’s second season over at the link here.

I think the Nanobot introduction gave us more questions than answers. I would like to know how are we even living when our body has nerves, heart, brain that works purely on conduction of electricity? As it is said, they are breathing in nanobots but why are they not absorbing the electricity produced? And where are they getting the material responsible for replication? I think we need to watch a few more episodes.
Also, I am glad that Charlie is sidelined and she has always been the root cause of all the problems on the show. Terrible acting and writers had put so much trust on her, which has utterly failed. I am glad post-hiatus episodes have more of Rachel, Miles, Neville, Aaron rather than Charlie and the annoying teenager bunch. And for god’s sake, I hope this show doesn’t start exploring the family drama. It just isn’t right on this show, considering terrible acting from the one of the leads.
Also, am waiting for a war between the two republics – Monroe and Georgia.
