‘Arrow’ episode 19 review: Oliver Queen vs. The Count … and who else?

ArrowOn Wednesday night’s new episode of “Arrow,” we had a story that certainly seems familiar to this show at this point: we had the return of an old villain (in this case The Count), and of course some classic feuding between Laurel and her father over whether or not someone close to her is guilty of wrongdoing (in this case Tommy).

At times, the broadcast format hinders “Arrow” in that it is hard to tell distinct stories every week, and thus there are times when things do very much start to blend together. After all, much of this did feel like something that we had seen before in other forms, with the exception of a few important twists at the end:

1. The Count really is insane – As it turns out, Seth Gabel’s character was really just a pawn by a doctor who created a more advanced form of vertigo using what he learned from treating his patient. While Oliver decided to leave him alive, it’s hard to see how much of an impact he could have on the show moving forward.

2. A close call – As it turns out, Oliver does have a backup plan for whenever he thinks that his secret hideout could be exposed to the wrong person.

3. On his own – While Oliver was able to save his club, his suspicion of Tommy as someone who could really be a pusher of vertigo caused his friend to not only quit the club, but go and seek work with his father. When you remember who this man truly is, this is not good news for our hero at all. As a matter of fact, it couldn’t be worse.
