‘American Idol’ top 7 spoilers: Casey James, Carrie Underwood to perform during rock week

American IdolFinally, Casey James is getting what he deserves a full three years after he first appeared on “American Idol”: an opportunity to perform during the next live results show. The season 9 star has fared well in the country / rock circuit, and he’s also been rather smart in how he methodically releases his music rather than rushing anything. (Plus, “Crying on a Suitcase” is one of our favorite post-“Idol” songs ever by an alum.)

On the show next week, Casey is going to perform his new single “The Good Life,” and this should serve as the best launching pad he’s really had for any of his new singles to date. Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood is also going to be present in order to perform her new single from the “Blown Away” album, which is entitled “See You Again.” Carrie, unlike Casey, has appeared on the show countless times since her original stop.

As for the theme for next week, it is one that we’re sure many critics appreciate (we sure do): a classic rock theme, but one that requires there to be no ballads. After so many boring performances that suck the life out of the show, Nigel Lythgoe and company are finally forcing all of the contestants to go uptempo to show what else they have to offer. Plus, he’s probably seeing the ratings plummet and no that something is wrong.

With Devin Velez’s predictable elimination, we’re not in an interesting situation in that there are only two guys left, and only Burnell Taylor recently has an outside chance of making it fairly far. For sure, the foursome of Angie Miller, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, and Janelle Arthur has a ticket deep this season. (Amber Holcomb really should, too.)

What do you think about this theme, and are you thrilled to see Casey back? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and you can read our full review of the results show over at the link here.
