‘Downton Abbey’ season 4: Lesley Nicol describes upcoming story
As we said yesterday, one of the great things about the “Downton Abbey” filming process is that thanks to the location of certain studios, it is possible for the cast to work long days, and then be able to go out at night and work on some other pursuits. Last week, these pursuits for both Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore) and Sophie McShera (Daisy) ended up leading them to “The Book of Mormon” premiere in London, and it almost goes without saying that they were asked about what we can expect for the upcoming fourth season of the show.
Of course, neither actress was really able to say much to Red Carpet News, with Nicol in particular offering up a pretty hilarious line about how secretive ITV bosses are forcing the cast to be right now:
“Rollercoaster, you never know what happens next. We’re never allowed to say anything, so not I’m just making [stuff] up.”
So what could we see transpire for these characters? We know that first and foremost we would love to see Mrs. Patmore develop some sort of genuine love interest after what happened to her during the Christmas special; in the midst of all of the tragedy rocking the world of the Abbey, there has to be some sort of happiness there, right? We ultimately are hoping the same for Daisy, mostly because it seems like she is constantly on the cusp of getting somewhere, only to have the rug pulled out from under her in the end.
What would you specifically likely see from both Mrs. Patmore and Daisy in the new “Downton Abbey” season? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below, and you can also see what Jessica Brown Findlay has to say about the reason for her departure from the show over at the link here.

William’s father talked about leaving Daisy the farm– suggesting she could cook and sell jams, etc. Alfred has expressed interest in being a cook–and as a footman, he knows how to service customers in style. Sounds like a marriage and running an Inn for the two of them would be a great step up the economic ladder.

I am really not very interested in another season. I thought the series should have ended after season 2. The man who will be Mary’s love interest is way too swarthy looking to fit with her delicate beauty. I think Julian Ovenden would be a better choice for her, but frankly I think the writing could be a lot better. I can’t figure out if Elizabeth McGovern is not a good actress or whether her script is so poorly written, she just cannot deliver her lines. I will probably watch season 4 just to see what is going on, but not with the anticipation that I experienced before Matthew died.

Mrs. Patmore and William’s father should meet through Daisy and develop a love relationship. Since Daisy is close to both of them, they would have their caring for her in common.
