ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 2, episode 17 review: Amanda Clarke did not [spoiler]

RevengeWhile we should at this point be primed to expect shockers and jaw-dropping revelations on “Revenge,” there was certainly one thing we did not see coming during Sunday night’s new episode: learning that Amanda Clarke was not actually the person who burned down the foster home so many years ago.

During what has to be the umpteenth example of someone using a Grayson press conference in order to further along their own personal agenda, Eli decided to blow the lid off of what the foster home did to him and so many others over the years; unfortunately, there was one unfortunate thing that did come out of this event (which was held in Jack’s bar in another political love): this same foster mother selling Eli out over the fire. As it turns out, the one that Amanda set so many years ago burned out, and he lit it again out of anger.

Eli’s quest to “make things right” does not currently sit right with the woman now known as Emily Thorne, and for good reason: she changed his entire life. Nonetheless, the man took it upon himself to do some horrible things in order to try and get back Emily’s letters written to her from her father, He didn’t fully succeed, but at least sent Emily another step on his journey before seemingly falling off the grid for good. This led to the cliffhanger at the end of the episode: Mason actually had purchased the letters, and she tried to use her situation as blackmail in order to find out all of the information she wanted. The big shocker? That there is another son out there that she is going to be hunting down very soon.

As for the rest of this episode, we saw Aiden prove himself to be a horrible man for hire, as he ended up getting Padma captured, and the most-powerful program in the enemy’s hands. The only thing that makes matters worse for Nolan? That Falcon also has connections to the initiative.

The only other storyline this week was Jack figuring out what the faux Amanda Clarke did in order to try and exposure Conrad, and that she was really trying to expose him prior to getting killed. Jack is agreeing to help Conrad out with his campaign now, but of course with a rather serious ulterior motive in mind.
