Jay Leno caps off week of NBC-bashing with more NBC-bashing
After a week that has been filled with colorful and at times nasty attacks on NBC, its ratings, and its executives, did you really think that Jay Leno was going to tone it down at all for his final edition of “The Tonight Show” this week? There may be a part of the network that really hates what he is doing, but at the same time, isn’t it also possible that these diatribes could eventually lead to stronger ratings?
Leno actually went two for the price of one during his monologue Friday, and even told one joke about his rumored exit that we found to be his nastiest one yet (but also one that is a bit ironic given his role in both the David Letterman and Conan O’Brien fiascoes).
Joke #1 – “Doctors in Canada were shocked after pulling a three-inch knife blade from the back of a 32-year old man. The knife had been in there for three years! Imagine that, the guy had a knife in his back for three years. He must’ve worked at NBC, too. I was stunned by that.”
Joke #2 – “Have you heard about this alleged feud that I’m having with NBC? I think it’s going to be OK. This is real: I had dinner last night with a bunch of NBC executives. To make it up to me, what they did, they are sending my wife and I on an all expenses paid Carnival cruise. How about that? So it looks like it’s going to be OK. Fantastic!”
The fact that there are two jokes coming in now following the NBC meeting is probably not a good sign, and it could mean that Leno is finally clued in now on everything that is happening moving forward, which may include turning over “The Tonight Show” at the end of next year to Jimmy Fallon.
But is the show really going to go on for Leno that long with the jokes he is telling? That is what we’re infinitely curious to find out about, especially if the rumors about him having a huge buyout are to be believed.
What do you think about Leno’s new jokes, and do you see this getting much worse before we ever reach the end of this story? Be sure to share some of what you think below!

Jay Leno is the ultimate backstabber, so he knows a thing or two about it, just as Conan.
