‘Bates Motel’ spoilers: Will Norman’s ‘souvenir’ expose his secrets?
“Bates Motel” kicked off it’s first season with a really strong start and much to A&E’s delight, fans are already completely invested in the show.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out “Bates Motel” yet we highly recommend it, but be warned, this is a television series about Norman Bates, so expect there to be violence and a few disturbing scenes – this is not a show for the weak at heart. During the premiere episode, we met Norman Bates, who after the unexpected death of his father moved with his mother, Norma, to a motel she bought in a foreclosure. After settling into the motel, Norma met the man (Keith Summers) who lost the motel to the bank and he was more then a little angry that she bought the motel. He became violent with Norma and Norman hit him with a stove iron with Norman finishing off the job with a kitchen knife. Norma and Norman eventually dumped his body in the lake, but not before officers became suspicious that these two were ripping up the motel carpets at 2 in the morning.
So will Norman and Norma get away with it? According to TV Guide it looks like their troubles with the law are far from over at this point. Norman decided to keep a souvenir from his murderous night with his mother, something that Norma doesn’t know about and could ruin them both if it was ever found. We will also get a chance to see just how much rage is really bottled up inside Norman when his half brother Dylan comes to the motel.
Over all “Bates Motel” has the potential to be a really great show, there’s just a few things that are a little off about the show that just don’t add up like why does everything look like it’s set in the 70’s (the clothes, cars and buildings are completely outdated), but everyone’s rolling with iPhones? Also after what happened to Norman’s mother in the kitchen, why didn’t anyone have any real reaction over the incident? Leave us a comment and tell us what you thought of the premiere episode of “Bates Motel” and if you plan on tuning in again.

I agree with the person above! I thought Norma killed her husband because she wasn’t so shocked after it happened. And the anachronisms drove me nuts! I too thought this was in the 70s, but was confused when I saw the iPhones and earbuds. They need to take care of that.

Well, I think we need to keep in mind the original Psycho. Norman was really a messed up puppy. There has to be a reason. Obviously, Norma is mentally ill and has placed Norman in the center of her life (no one should put that on a child). It would have been great had Norman just briefly told someone, “My dad fell and died” or “My father committed suicide” when they asked. Just a sentence! I assumed Norma had something to do with the father’s death. Her response sets the mood for the character. Detached, cold, manipulative, impulsive–to name a few of her qualities–gives us a glimpse into the beginnings of the twists in Nirman’s psyche. He will develop a love/hate relationship with women. We need to know why! So……..we need to know if Mama killed Daddy?!???!! Show was great and the violent scene and Norma’s reaction was absolutely necessary to the development of Norman. Also key will be his guilt over not being home to prevent the assault and the power Norma will now wield over him.
