‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Joseph Morgan talks Klaus, Hayley’s future

So did the recent hookup between Klaus and Hayley on “The Vampire Diaries” mean that there are some steamy things ahead on the potential spin-off series “The Originals”? Even though this would be a very easy route for the show to go given their love of romance, don’t count on it.

Rather, Joseph Morgan tells TV Guide that at the moment, the writers and producers of the new show are doing everything they can to ensure that there is not some sort of romance brewing between he and Phoebe Tonkin’s characters beyond that one moment. Why? They want to avoid coming across like the original series with different actors in the same sort of roles:

“Because we were the first people cast — myself, Daniel Gillies and Phoebe Tonkin — it’s easy to assume that it’ll be a love triangle with Hayley and the two brothers, but it’s something so utterly different … That would be a cheap shot to have a carbon copy of The Vampire Diaries, which [the spin-off] really isn’t.”

At this point, Morgan does certainly have a pretty good idea as to what “The Originals” is about. He and the cast have already filmed the portion of the backdoor pilot set in New Orleans, which only makes the waiting game until April 25 even longer. It is possible that The CW may have already made their decision at that point as to whether or not they want to pick up the series for the fall, but they may also wait to see what the fans think about the concept.
