‘Big Brother Canada’ review: Did Canada’s Power of Veto make Tom crazy?

ThomasThere is probably a number of people who have very strong opinions about “Big Brother Canada” at the moment: you either love the massive twist that Arisa Cox laid on the houseguests, or you hate it with just about every fabric of your being. Either opinion is certainly understandable at the moment, since we’ve always felt that way about this game. It’s never really been very fair, and you can look at the constant ways in which past seasons (see 11, 13, or even the most recent one in America) to see how production played a role in helping to save their favorites.

However, what was interesting about this twist (which was seemingly pre-ordained in some way) was that it actually felt as though it being let loose now was a way to hurt a houseguest more than help them. We don’t get the sense that Suzette is really a fan favorite at all, but everyone despises Tom so much that she was kept around with Canada’s Veto in order to add some drama to the game. We don’t really think she’s going to be able to do anything to actually stay alive long-term, but good for her getting another week!

The saddest part about this elimination was that it really came out of left field. Aneal probably woke up thinking that he had nothing at all to worry about, and now he’s going out the door. It’s a shame, too, since he was a sneaky player that could have been interesting to watch in the long-term.

As for why this twist really doesn’t matter … get ready to groan. Emmett won Head of Household, and he’s probably going to send Suzette home. While there will probably be some sort of pressure to put up Tom or Liza, we really can’t see it happening since he needs Tom as his final two.

What did you think about this episode, and do you think that this twist is really going to make a big difference at the end of the day? If you want to see where we ranked these contestants leading up to the eviction, you can do so over here.
