NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 4: See Shakira promo in Spanish

Shakira, the VoiceWhile Shakira is a major star to English-speaking audiences courtesy of some of her hits like “Hips Don’t Lie” and “She-Wolf,” she’s a legend in Spanish-speaking countries throughout Latin America, arguably even more so than any singing show judge ever to take a look at American talent. Just to give you some perspective here, know this: Shakira has more Twitter followers than all of the original judges plus Usher combined. There is only one person with singing competition history with more followers than her, and that is former “X Factor” judge Britney Spears.

So with all of this in mind, isn’t NBC doing a very smart thing by airing a commercial for “The Voice” season 4 in Spanish? You cannot ignore just how enormous of a Spanish-speaking population there is in America, and how her music is extremely popular in such states as Florida (in particular Miami) along with California. While the show had likely hit its max viewership with Christina Aguilera, the presence of someone new here, while also keeping around the alliance between Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, probably means ratings gold.

Based on everything we have seen of Shakira so far, we are most definitely impressed. Not only does she come across as very honest and interested in actually helping some of these contestants, but she also has a quick wit and is unafraid to challenge the other coaches. When you remember that she is facing off against two people in Adam and Blake who have led artists to victory, you almost have to be aggressive straight of the gate.

What do you think about NBC’s move here, and do you think appealing to a Spanish-speaking audience will help bring in a new viewer base? If you want to see more of what season 3 champ Cassadee Pope is doing now, you can do so over at the link here.
