‘The X Factor’ USA / UK notes: Fifth Harmony, Little Mix, Demi Lovato, and more

LylasWe’re crossing both coasts for this new Saturday edition of “The X Factor” notes, and we are kicking things off here with something that very much brings a smile to our face: a new cover from Fifth Harmony! Following their recent performance of Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You,” the ladies (Dinah, Normani, Ally, Lauren, and Camila) have now busted out a new version of Lana Del Rey’s hit “American.”

First of all, hats off to Camila for going with the synergy and wearing a shirt with the American flag on it; and then, hats off to the entire group for the killer vocals. Just in the day that this video has been online, it has already generated over 45,000 views on YouTube as of this writing; and once it starts to go viral, this number will only start to increase exponentially.

Fifth Harmony is still keeping the lid tight on their original music for their upcoming solo album, but we expect that more and more of this will be shown off in the weeks and months ahead. For now, just enjoy the cover below.

Let’s talk airplay – We thought it would be nice to spend a few minutes talking about how some of the artists and judges from both the U.S. and British versions are faring at the moment on the American charts.

At the moment, the current title-holder is One Direction, who is sitting at #19 with “Kiss You.” This song has quietly become a modest hit on America, and it follows a chain of successes that the boy band has had with “What Makes You Beautiful,” “One Thing,” “Live While We’re Young,” and “Little Things.” They are not the only British act on the chart, as Cher Lloyd is at #35 with her version of “With Ur Love” (featuring Juicy J) while the 2011 champs Little Mix are at #45 with their song “Wings.” The girl group has yet to even start an American promotional tour, but it should happen at some point this spring.

Finally, we want to give some attention to how Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” is killing it right now. The show surged up to #29 mere weeks after its debut online, and is gaining more spins right now than anything else on pop radio.
