‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: Meet a more powerful angel than Castiel

Misha CollinsIn case you wondering as to what sort of storyline “Supernatural” would be giving their newly-appointed series regular Misha Collins when his promotion takes place next season, we now have a pretty good idea. The latest casting snippet suggests that there will be another angel entering the world of the show soon, and this one will be strong enough that he puts even Castiel and Naomi to shame.

According to a report from SpoilerTV, the character of Metatron (name subject to change) is described as being “the scribe of God” and has been around since before the days of Adam and Eve. With this in mind, expect him to be one of the wisest people introduced yet on the show, and he may offer up a different sort of perspective on the dilemma currently facing Cas, Sam, and Dean on the surface world.

This character is also going to be more than just a one-off guest. Current indications are that they will recur throughout the final three episodes of season 8, and could appear even more in season 9 depending on the reaction to the character. Considering the importance of this role in the angel hierarchy, this is someone that really needs to be cast perfectly (similar to what “The Vampire Diaries” did with Klaus) in order for the story to really work.

“Supernatural” has seen a sort of ratings revelation in its eighth season thanks in part to a move to Wednesday nights, and now the question remains whether it will remain there, or make way for a new series to try and capitalize off of the “Arrow” lead-in.

What do you think about the addition of this Metatron character, and what it potentially does mean for Castiel? If you want to see what our favorite angel’s next mission is set to be, you can do so just by visiting the story here.
