‘True Blood’: Alexander Skarsgard – ’50 Shades of Grey’ craze continues

Alexander SkarsgardEven though Alexander Skarsgard seems to be rather busy at the moment when it comes to production on “True Blood” season 6, the actor somehow has find the time to star in “50 Shades of Grey” … or not really.

Rather, what has happened here is that one diehard fan of the actor has taken the time out to craft a mock trailer of the book adaptation with the Eric Northman actor in the lead role. Since this is “50 Shades of Grey” we are talking about, the trailer’s a little steamy and you can watch it over here (though this is still probably tame in comparison to what the actual movie will be).

Since it has been a little while since we have written about the casting rumors for this movie, we may as well take a few minutes to share our perspective on it. We know that the book has a passionate fan following, and since “True Blood” does as well, it certainly makes sense that there would be a legion of people interested in casting Skarsgard for the role. After all, he already plays a character who has a certain penchant for torture, and his movie stock is on the rise after appearing in some films over the past few years. It is for much of the same reason that Ian Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries” has been a long-rumored name, as has Matt Bomer of “White Collar” (even though he, unlike his fellow candidates here, is not a blood-sucking vampire).

Really, the interest in the movie by any of these actors is going to depend largely on the script, and in following that, they would actually have to have time to film the movie while also fulfilling their TV commitments. This is why we still think that an actor currently employed on a show is a long shot for the part, though Skarsgard could have some time open a little later this year depending on what his other film plans are.

Do you really think that the casting for this is being overblown, especially since we don’t even know who the studio and producers are really targeting first and foremost?
