‘American Idol’ preview: Zoanette Johnson, Candice Glover among ones to watch
We’re back with another new episode of “American Idol” on Wednesday night, and while there are some surefire strong performers in the mix this time around, there also are some serious wild cards. We presented lists of some of the contestants to watch last week as a way to preview the performers, and while we are not necessarily saying that these are the best singers of the bunch, they are certainly the ones that are going to get the most attention.
Candice Glover – By far, she is the favorite of the remaining ten ladies. Candice has the strongest soul voice of any female on this show since Melinda Doolittle, and she also happens to be pretty likable and down-to-earth to boot. It’s been a long time since we saw a singer like her in the finale (season 3, in all honesty), so it’s fair to say that this competition is due for someone like her.
Zoanette Johnson – Zoanette is a trainwreck. There’s no denything that. However, we find her more of an entertaining trainwreck than anything else, and despite whatever complaints are out there from purists, this show needs big personalities in the live voting rounds. Not every person with a big voice is going to make it doing what they love, but someone who is ccreative and a little strange like Zoanette could have a shot.
Rachel Hale – This is once again turning out to be a strong season for country singers. While the show’s most consistently-positive singer has had some bumps in the road, she is probably the strongest person this show has in the genre right now not named Kree Harrison.
We will be honest here in saying that if the show actually did not pick an even amount of men and women to advance, more of these ladies would probably make it through. Sadly, this is just the way of the world for this competition.
