‘Supernatural’ season 8, episode 16 preview: First look at ‘Remember the Titans’
Are you ready for “Supernatural” to mix a little bit of Greek mythology in the mix? If so, you are almost certain to love the new episode airing next week entitled “Remember the Titans,” which is going to bring the show’s version of many of these classic gods, goddesses, and heroes to the small screen.
Unfortunately, there is still something lacking in the promo below: Castiel. Misha Collins’ character has been missing in action ever since “Torn and Frayed,” but rest assured: even if our favorite angel is not a part of this episode, he will be back fairly soon. There are still multiple episodes left in the actor’s commitment for the season, and both he and Amanda Tapping (Naomi) were on the show’s set earlier this month.
In going back to this episode, you can still expect a pretty entertaining hour that features some goofy moments, and also some opportunities to see just what Sam and Dean are up to now following a pretty intense “Trial and Error” … which we are still not sure was an episode that we appreciated or we were frustrated by. This season has had some spectacular moments, but it has also had some major stumbling blocks along the way. Overall, this is far better than what we believe was the weakest season of the show, but still a step below “Supernatural” during its glory days.
What do you want to see unfold during this episode, and are you enjoying some of these episodes even without the presence of someone as memorable as Cas? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and you can read some more news about the show’s ninth-season renewal over at the link here.

I love the story line about men on letters. I agree an episode without Cas feels like something is missing. He has become as important to the story as the Winchesters. I wish we got to see more of Kevin as well.

Hey Deborah, you should be happy to hear that Cas is in season 9. I think Cas and heaven are an essential part of the overall story. Gabriel said this was all about the archangels and their fight with God, their father. But God seems to favor humanity over the archangels and in subtle unseen ways has aided Team Free Will by resurrecting Cas who was the one angel who saw humanity the way God wanted all angels to see the human race. I disagree that the Men of Letters is spinning off into something different. Men of Letters is another aspect of Team Free Will since they were putting a stop to interferrence in human lives from the pagan gods, children of Eve, and the demons and angels.

Well I respect Tvmonkey’s opinion but I’m with Deborah on this. Truth is, Cas has become ESSENTIAL to many many fans, and it’s not the same without him. What the ratings say doesn’t matter because in the end, even Cas-fans watch episodes where Cas is not in them, because we all are Supernatural fans and like good stories and the brothers.
However, that’s just because we know that Cas will be back. If given the case that he weren’t going to be in s9, I assure you that ratings wouldn’t be as good (as happened in s7, for example).
So yeah, Tvmonkey, I’m glad you enjoy the Cas-free episodes, but there are many people who can’t (and even less when Cas has been gone for so long and is depressed and suicidal and compromised).

Well given that episode 12, 13 and 14 were easily the best of the season with no Cas in sight and ratings have actually not been affected whether he is in an episode or not I would say Cas’s presence makes absolutely no difference to viewing enjoyment of the neilsen box owning SPN fans. His certainly doesnt affect my enjoyment of an episode either way. As long as the Winchesters are there and the story is good I am a happy camper.

Although “Remember the Titans” sounds interesting, I’m VERY MUCH missing Castiel and wish that the series would get BACK on track. The first half of the season seemed to be serious SPN: Purgatory; search for Word of God; Demons/Angels. However, then we spun off into something which is almost entirely different: Men of Letters, etc. It’s like two different shows. Frankly, I prefer the FIRST half to the disjointed second half. As FOR Castiel, if he isn’t in season nine, I am not watching. Because, no, I have NOT enjoyed these episodes as much, without Castiel. What makes SPN special, now, is Team Free Will: Dean, Sam, AND Castiel. When one of those members is missing, in this case, Castiel, it leaves a huge hole in the show which can not be filled by the current flood of ‘guest stars.’
