‘Saturday Night Live’: Justin Timberlake to return as host March 9
If you are a real fan of “Saturday Night Live,” there is one thing that you are probably more than willing to declare at this very moment: Justin Timberlake is one of the best hosts out there. Over the course of the past four occasions in which he has taken on these duties, he has become a bit of a sketch-comedy folk hero. The last time he hosted was back in May 2011, and his “Liquorville” sketch with Kristen Wiig and Lady Gaga may to this day be one of our favorite sketches in the history of the show.
Now that he has a new album “The 20/20 Experience,” Timberlake is coming back to the show for some more laughs. Not only has he been announced already as the emcee for the March 9 show, but he will also be pulling double-duty like Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars and serving as a musical guest. This is the first season we can remember where we saw hosts take on multiple responsibilities, and thus far the success rate for the season has been about 50-50. (Mars was awesome, Timberlake was not.)
Of course, the announcement of Timberlake as host almost immediately begs the question as to whether or not we are going to have a chance to bear witness to the return of Andy Samberg, who the actor has starred with on Digital Shorts over the course of the past several years. (“D**k in a Box” still remains one of the show’s most-popular clips ever.) Samberg has a busy schedule right now courtesy of a new pilot, but he could make time for this.
