Grammys 2013: Adele, Carrie Underwood, Fun. among big winners

GrammysWhile the 2013 Grammy Awards may be by and large about the notable performances, there are also some winners that actually receive recognition over the course of the three-hour broadcast. This article is going to be all about this very subject; the list will be updated as the show progresses, so be sure to check back throughout the night for some more announcements.

Female Pop Vocal Performance – Adele, “Set Fire to the Rain.” Did anyone really see this coming? The answer here is probably “yes.” The Grammys love Adele the same way that people in a steakhouse love … well, steak.

Best Country Song – Carrie Underwood, “Blown Away.” This was a big night for Carrie, as she also walked away with a number of other trophies over the course of the night.

Song of the Year – Fun., “We Are Young.” It took us a minute to remember that Lena Dunham is dating one of the band members here, and it almost crossed our mind that maybe the Grammys were going to give her a trophy for “Girls,” as well.

Best Urban Contemporary Album – Frank Ocean, “Channel Orange.” What a big win this was for Ocean. Plus, we wonder what Chris Brown thinks about this.

Best Rock Performance – The Black Keys, “Lonely Boy.” Another worthy winner, and once again an example of how the Grammys get it right more often than not.

Pop Vocal Album – Kelly Clarkson, “Stronger.” This is turning out to be quite a day for former “American Idol” winners, isn’t it?

Best Collaboration – “No Church in the Wild,” The Thrones featuring Frank Ocean and The-Dream. In between this and performing with Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z had quite a night.

Best New Artist – Fun. This was a great category, so any of them would have been worthy champions.

Record of the Year – “Somebody That I Used To Know,” Gotye featuring Kimbra. The best part of this entire acceptance speech was seeing Gotye’s massive hero for presenter Prince.

Album of the Year – Mumford & Sons, “Babel.” This was the perfect combination of Grammy bait. A brilliant band that also had a very commercial album.
