ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2 spoilers: Scoop on a surprising death

“Scandal” season 2 has delivered some great ratings throughout 2013 thus far, but you have to believe that episode 13 on Thursday has the potential to knock all of the past episodes out of the park. If the season was structured as originally planed, this would serve as a finale; and thus, it is going to really feel as such throughout the course of the hour.

So what sort of things are often in finales? Think along the lines of betrayals, big decisions, and shocking deaths. (Hey, this is a Shonda Rhimes show.) According to Zap2It, what is particularly surprising about the person who dies during this episode, though, is that the person who does end up passing away actually will bring Fitz closer to Mellie again.

For fans of Fitz and Olivia, we’re sure that this could bring possible gladiator tears. It has seemed over the past two weeks that Fitz was surely ready to say goodbye to his relationship with the First Lady, and was even willing to risk his entire political career and approval ratings in order to do so. However, this one event could cast a little bit of doubt as to whether or not that happens. (The fact that Scott Foley is coming on board the show soon as a possible love interest to Olivia could make things even worse.)

Much of the nine episodes that follow Thursday are still wrapped in mystery; and save for the aforementioned new character, the only other thing that we can confirm is that there will be a time jump of almost a full year between one installment and the next.
