‘New Girl’ season 2 spoilers: How will Nick and Jess move forward?

If you watched Tuesday night’s “New Girl” without being spoiled in advance, then you were probably overjoyed at the sight of Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) locking lips after a season and a half of “will they or won’t they?” drama. Clearly this is a moment that is going to change how the two parties think about each other moving forward … but it is also not a guarantee by any means that they will become an actual couple anytime soon.

Just in case you want some more verification on this very subject, just listen to what executive producer Liz Meriwether had to say following the kiss in a new interview with E! News:

“They’re definitely not ready to be a couple … What this is is acknowledging that they have this strong pull for each other. [But] I don’t think, a lot of times, one kiss leads to a relationship.”

The next few episodes will likely still continue to examine the aftermath of a kiss, as well as try to answer a few questions. For example, is this going to lead Jess to break up with her boyfriend Sam, and does Nick really want to be with her? You could consider this moment to be something that was done by him to demonstrate what he wanted their first kiss to be like rather than during a kissing game, but we also believe that he would not have been so inclined to do this right now had the events during the “True American” game not unfolded like they did.
