‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 spoilers: Kit Harrington, Cirian Hinds talk Iceland
There is nothing we love more from a production video standpoint than seeing “Game of Thrones” highlight some of its magnificent locations, and with this very thing in mind the following clip makes us literally want to smile from ear to ear. Iceland is one of the most magnificent locations that the show visits every year, and this time around, the producers went to an even further extreme to make Beyond the Wall realistic by venturing out to a remote northern part of the country featuring plenty of scenery and copious amounts of snow.
In the video below straight from HBO, you can hear the show’s producers, actors (Kit Harrington, Cirian Hinds, and Rose Leslie), and other folks behind the scenes discuss the challenges and rewards of filming in such a location. It is not an easy place to travel to, and nor is it cheat to have the equipment necessary to battle the elements; however, the general feeling here from executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff is that they would rather spend money on such things than on visual effects, since the beauty of this world is something that cannot be replicated via a green screen.
If you stick around until the very end of the clip, you also get the opportunity to hear Hinds say one line as Mance Rayder, who may be the most intriguing new character on the show this year. The King Beyond the Wall is going to be hugely significant to the Jon Snow storyline, especially when it comes to his journey to become more than just a castoff member of the Stark family and member of the Night’s watch.
In case you haven’t heard already, “Game of Thrones” season 3 has added a rather surprising fifth location to production in Los Angeles. If you want to know why, be sure to check out the story over here.
