ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5, episode 13 preview: The Bracken dilemma

Let’s say you are in Kate Bekcett’s shoes: the man that is responsible for killing you mother is standing right in front of you, and you are told that you need to protect him. What do you do? This is the question that Stana Katic’s character must find a way to answer on next week’s all-new episode of “Castle.” (Disregard the “two weeks from tonight” part of the promo below.)

We don’t know just yet why exactly Bracken is in police protection just yet, or why in the world anyone would let Beckett get into a room with the guy to begin with. It’s certainly understandable, after all, that she would like to get the ultimately revenge on him for what he did; but at the same time, is killing Jack Coleman’s character really going to bring Beckett’s mother back?

What we are really hoping to see from next week’s episode is that it presents us with an opportunity to see Bracken taken down in a different way, one that forces him to spend the rest of his life rooting away in a jail cell rather than offering some sort of quick release. Would they really bring back Coleman just to torture us further? From one standpoint, it makes sense to keep the notorious villain alive on the show for as long as possible, especially since you need a great case for the end of the series. However, at this point it would just feel like torture to see Bracken show up now, get away, and then put Beckett through even more turmoil before he inevitably turns up later. While it could cost her everything if she makes a mistake, this is going to be the episode that makes or breaks our famed detective.
